Countdown is TED’s global initiative to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis, turning ideas into action.
Every organisation, company, city and nation and citizens everywhere are invited to collaborate with Countdown and take action on climate. It is a movement open to everyone – and everyone has a vital role to play.
Here in WA, young and emerging leaders know that taking climate action is critical to their future. They understand that we need to reach net zero carbon and believe young people are a vital part of the solution. If this sounds like you, then Countdown is for you.
Created for young leaders aged 16 to 30, Countdown puts those most affected by climate change front and centre. Six remarkable, future-focused, innovative young leaders spoke about how they are actively working towards net zero. Their fresh ideas are practical routes to a better, more sustainable world.
Countdown won’t debate climate change – the science is in, and responsibility for the crisis is understood. Instead, the Summit is all about tangible, realistic action that will make a difference. Action is needed now for a world that is safer, cleaner and fairer for everyone.
We were joined by The Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia who delivered a Welcome Address. The Governor strongly believes that young and emerging leaders are central to WA’s path to carbon neutrality.
Like all TEDxKingsPark events, Countdown was carbon neutral.

Major Partners

Department of Communities
The Department of Communities is Western Australia’s major human services department that brings together vital services and functions that support individual, family and community wellbeing. We also lead the State’s social recovery, following challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Everything we do is about people, place and home.

Containers for Change
Millions of containers end up in litter and landfill every year, even though the materials they are made from are valuable resources that can be turned into a range of things – including new containers! That’s why we need Containers for Change, because every container received through our scheme will be recycled. Be part of the change today – for the environment, the community and our future.
