Systemic abuse in the arts has to stop now

312   7   15m 23s

As a young, disabled artist of migrant background, Patrick has experienced repeated discrimination and abuse from people and organisations claiming to be his supporters. Describing the depth of the problem, Patrick has a message of solidarity and hope for anyone who has been marginalised. Patrick is an award-winning writer, performer, dramatist and arts journalist based in Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar (Perth). His tender interdisciplinary works explore agency, strategy, and healing justice through the standpoints of oppressed communities, and have encouraged empowering cultural change in his local arts scenes. He is also a lived experience speaker and community consultant in the public sector, where his work builds capacity for empathy among health and community service providers.

Presented at TEDxYouth@Perth 2021 on March 20th, 2021.
