Katarina Doughty

Sustainable Food Scientist

Katarina Doughty is a PhD student at the University of Western Australia whose research focuses on transforming our current global food systems from a linear, grow – eat – discard, model to a circular model that sees waste as a resource that we can harness.

Katarina’s research tackles global concerns about feeding a growing human population, while reducing global food waste, greenhouse gas emissions and conserving our waterways and aquatic ecosystems by reducing our reliance on wild caught fish, both as food for us and feed for our farmed fish.

She is a Global Challenges Champion at the University, where she works on multiple projects in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Katarina is passionate about raising awareness around sustainable food production and educating people on the small changes they can make in their everyday life that can have profound positive impacts.
